Wired Ethernet (Academic)
Dickinson provides a wired network connection to most Tech Hubs as an alternative to wireless. This will connect automatically upon plugging in the USB-C cable. A wired network connection is also availible in certain lab classrooms (such as Rector). If you would like to use the wired network at these locations, you will need to manually configure a few authentication settings on your device. These steps will need to be completed while your computer is connected to the Tech Hub, docking station, or USB ethernet adapter.
Instructions are provided below for both Windows computers and Mac computers.
Mac Computers
Step 1: A dialog box asking for your network credentials should pop up automatically the first time you connect to a Tech Hub. Please enter your Dickinson username and password (do not include the @dickinson.edu part). Check the "remember this information" box and click "Ok".
Step 2: You will be asked to verify and accept the authentication certificate. Check the "always trust" box and click "Continue".
Step 3: You may be asked to enter your username and password to save the certificate information. This is the username and password of the local user on your personal computer (not your Dickinson credentials). Click "Update Settings".
You're all set! As long as you checked "remember this information" box in step 1, you should be able to move to any Tech Hub on campus without having to complete this process again.
Windows 11 Computers
Step 1: Click Start, search for "Services", and open the Services app.
Step 2: Locate the "Wired AutoConfig" service and double-click to open the properties. Change the startup type to "Automatic", click the "Start" button, then click "Apply".
Step 3: Click Start, search for "Network Connections" and open the "View Network Connections" app.
Step 4: Locate the Ethernet adapter of the Tech Hub. Right-click and select "Properties", then click the "Authentication" tab. Configure your settings as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 5: Click the "Settings" button next to the authentication method drop-down. Configure your settings as shown in the screenshot below, then click "Ok".
Step 6: Click the "Additional Settings" button. Configure your settings as shown in the screenshot below, then click the "Save Credentials" button. Enter your username (do not include the @dickinson.edu portion) and your password. Click Ok and close all dialogs.
You're all set! Windows requires these settings be configured on all ethernet interfaces individually. You should be able to move to any same-model Tech Hub without having to re-enter the settings; however, if you connect to other docking stations, USB adapters, or built-in network ports, you may need to complete steps 4-6 again.
