The French & Francophone studies major allows students to travel across cultures, centuries and continents through curriculum and programming that explore the ever-expanding Francophone world. We offer interdisciplinary courses on a wide range of topics, including the African diaspora, contemporary French society, immigration, the French enlightenment, colonialism and post-colonialism, French food culture, environmental studies, war and trauma in North Africa and the Middle East, sociolinguistics and gender and sexuality in the Francophone world.    

Our courses and mentorship will help you improve your overall communication skills, enabling you to become better writers and more effective speakers. Through the study of literature, film, media, and other cultural artefacts, students build intercultural competence and analytic skills that serve them in a variety of circumstances and careers. Moreover, learning another language has been proven to carry numerous cognitive benefits, from creative thinking and problem-solving skills to improved memory and cerebral retention.
